Chrome OS is Missing or Damaged: Fix it Now!

Here you will find out:

  • what to do if Chrome OS is missing or damaged?
  • how DiskInternals Partition Recovery can help you

Are you ready? Let's read!

Google has announced Chrome OS, and devices running Chrome OS have been named Chromebooks. This operating system, like others (Windows OS and macOS), encounters various kinds of errors and problems. For example, you may see the error message “Chrome is missing or damaged. Please insert the recovery USB drive into one of the 4 ports on the REAR.”

Most often, this problem occurs when the computer boots, however, in some cases it occurs while using the device.

Now, you will learn how to fix missing or damaged Chrome OS. To do this, use one of the solutions below.

Let's Deal with it

1. Use Professional Software to Recover deleted history on Google Chrome

First, make sure your data is secure, as all of the following methods are unsafe for your data in the first place because their priority is not data, but fixing a system error in any way possible. Therefore, if you notice that the data has been damaged or deleted, or you do not have a backup copy of the accumulated data, you need to restore it as soon as possible. By the way, you can also create a disk image and restore data from there at the required point in time.

To do this, you should use the application DiskInternals Partition Recovery, which has all these features. Here you can recover data in several modes depending on the age of data loss and your free time. In addition, you can open previously inaccessible files, as in Explorer, if export is not important to you. But of course, you can create a disk image for free even with the adware version of the application.

This software works with Windows including 7,8,10; Supports file systems: ReiserFS, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, FAT12, ReFS, UFS, HFS, NTFS, Reiser4, and XFS. You can download the full-featured ad version and enjoy the whole real-time recovery process. The Recovery Wizard in this program opens by default at the beginning of the recovery process and follows the entire process, so don't worry - you will be supervised. You can recover absolutely any file of any size, and with the help of the free preview function, you will be sure of the quality of the recovered photos, videos, documents, etc.

As you can see, you can protect your important and even not very data, especially if you have tool like DiskInternals Partition Recovery.

2. Reload PC

Try to forcibly restart the computer, for this you can press the power button for a while and wait for the device to shut down completely. After 15 seconds, you can press the power button again to turn the device back on. Now check for the error "Chrome OS is missing or damaged, insert USB recovery drive or SD card" on your personal device.

3. Reset OS

If the previous solution doesn't work, please reset your Chromebook to factory settings.

Unfortunately, this method can be used only when you can sign in to your Chromebook and have backed up your data beforehand. Resetting the OS definitely will result in the loss of all files on the device, so a Google Drive backup will be very helpful.

So, to reset your Chromebook, do the following:

Start booting the OS and before authenticating, press Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R to continue. Next click Restart and then click Powerwash. Next, log into your Google account and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the work.

4. Reinstall it

Finally, you can reinstall Chrome OS to completely fix the “Chrome OS is missing or damaged hp” issue. Like the previous method, these actions will delete all files on the device. Therefore, once again make sure you backup your data.

After that, you can proceed to reinstall Chrome OS. First of all, prepare a formatted USB flash drive of 4 GB or more. Next, connect it to your work computer and open the Google Chrome browser.

In the Chrome Web Store, click the Add to Chrome button, then download and install the Chromebook Repair Utility.

After that, open the utility, then enter the model number of your Chromebook and follow the instructions on the screen to boot Chrome OS onto your drive.

Remove the USB stick from your work computer and insert it into your damaged computer. Turn on your device, hold Esc + Refresh on your keyboard and then press the Power button to boot your device into recovery mode.

Next, reinstall Chrome OS by following the Wizard's instructions on the monitor screen. After that, be sure to restart your computer to make sure that the problem has been successfully resolved.

If the problem still persists, then you have a hardware problem and you should ask for support from Google or the device manufacturer.

Good luck with solving any problems with the device!
