It can happen that, for any action, Windows will send you the message You Need Permission From the System to Perform This Action Windows 10. As a rule, this window appears when you do the following: when you copy files or folders after installing the software, after renaming a file or folder, and other similar actions. Let's see what solutions can be used to remove such a message and avoid it in the future.

Use Another Owner

The first way is to change the owner. Follow these detailed instructions step by step to solve the You Need Permission to Perform This Action error.

  1. 2. Right-click the folder or file icon and go to the Properties tab.
  1. 3. Next, click on Security and go to the General tab.
  1. 4. Under For Special Permissions or Advanced Settings, click Advanced.
  1. 5. Find the Owner tab in the upper-left corner of the window.
  1. 6. Click on Modify and run Select User or Group.
  1. 7. Pay attention to the lower-left corner of the window and click on Advanced.
  1. 8. Click the Find Now tab in the window that opens.
  1. 9. In the directory of possible actions, click on the group with full file access rights.
  1. 10. Click on Ok for the changes to take effect.
  1. 11. Find the Advanced Security Settings Section for the folder name and click on Permissions. Here, click on the Add tab and then Select Master Link.

Now you need to go through steps 7-10 to select the required user or group.

And in the Type menu, click on Allow.

Check the box next to Full Control, which you can find in the Basic Permissions subsection. Click on the Ok tab and save the changes. Close all windows.

Use Commands

  • Click on the Windows icon in the lower-left corner of the screen and go to the search field.
  • Type cmd here and select Command Prompt in the opened directory.
  • Click on the Run as Administrator value.
  • In Command Prompt, copy and paste the following command: takeown/f path_to_the_folder/r/d y and press Enter. You will now become the owner of a specific list.
  • Type or paste the command icacls path_to_the_folder/grant administrators:F/T and press Enter.
  • Wait for the process to finish. Check to see if your problem has been resolved.

The files that are available for recovery will be displayed here. Would you like to get your valuable information back?
