Did your Windows freeze after an update?

No doubt, a Windows update can cause a lot of issues after being installed. There have been many, many issues about Windows updates, and if your Windows froze after running Windows 10 Creators Update, here are the things you should do to unfreeze your PC.

Reasons for updates freezing in Windows 10

The freezing of Windows 10 during or after an update can be due to many different things. Commonly, freezing is caused by conflicting program files or issues you probably didn’t know about prior to running the Windows update. However, in rare cases, freezing is a result of a mistake/bug in the update file.

Also, it is important to note that freezing in Windows can occur on any Windows version, including Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, and older versions.

How to solve the issue

Method 1: Reboot your PC

A hard reboot is what you should do to your PC is it is frozen during update installation. To do this, hold down the power button to shut it down, and then press the power button to boot it back up. If you’re using a Windows laptop and the power button is not forcing it to shut down, simply remove the laptop battery and disconnect the charger (if connected).

Method 2: Reboot in Safe Mode

Safe Mode has always been one of the best ways to troubleshoot Windows computer problems; it can also help when a Windows 10 update causes freezing. Safe Mode booting is available in the Windows Startup Settings menu. Safe Mode simply disables all settings on the computer leaving only the important/crucial settings required for Windows to run. If after booting in Safe Mode, the updates can be installed without freezing your PC, then it’s obvious the cause was conflicting program files.

Method 3: Try to perform a System Restore

Attempting a System Restore can also help to solve Windows 10 freezing during update installation. System Restore can be done while in Safe Mode. This method is advisable if booting to Safe Mode didn't unfreeze the Windows updates installation. Interestingly, Windows automatically creates a restore point before installing its updates; you can take advantage of this. So, click on the "System Restore" link in Safe Mode and choose the newest "restore point”.

Warning!!!

System Restore can delete some of your important files; thus, it is advisable to create a disk image before doing that restore. When you create an image file using DiskInternals Partition Recovery, it serves a file that saves all your data in a single image file. Now, you can easily run this image file and access all your files and data at any time using DiskInternals Partition Recovery.
